The Snow Queen is Dead, Long Live the Black. Spring

"In the old age black was not counted fair,
                                         Or if it were, it bore not beauty's name;
                                But now is black beauty's successive heir..."

Urban Kitchen-ing with Madame Pogany

Hey Dears,

the gourmet inside me has a new favorite place in town to spoil the gustative nerve...and delight the eye with a passion for interior design: the urban, rough edge, boutique restaurant Madame Pogany.

The decor is minimalistic, with exposed, unpolished brick walls, shiny metallic pipes and tubes going around the room, cables hanging around, simple cut, massive wooden furniture and a super long bar counter to accomodate additional urban eaters. It somehow reminded me of a New York loft...

The food and ambiance (decoration, music, lighting) were top, the service...hmmm, totally politically correct, but somehow it still did not feel 100% right. Greetings upon arrival - checked, escorting to the table - checked, our questions answered - checked, food order fulfilled fast - checked, BUT still, there was no smile on the waitress' face, not even a forced one, she did almost all she should have done, following an immaginary check list, but we did not really feel comfortable, it all felt super cold somehow. It did not matter much...but still, I had to mention it.

Soooo, back to the pleasant stuff: the delish food! The menu is clean & simple, minimalistic as the decor, with few dishes, but interesting, uncommon combinations. I enjoyed the most delicious rissotto with calamari & black tiger prawns, my boyfriend some amazing tagliatelle with spinach and salmon. Pricing...very decent, while the servings were actually generous and we could not have dessert anymore.

Important to make a reservation, epecially on weekends, as they also organize small concerts/ dj sets and the place is always packed.
